Resin printers
Resin printers are used for cast models, splints, aligners and temporary molds; display pixel accuracy and resolution directly affect layer-line visibility and surface smoothness. Higher resolutions (like 16K) mean finer anatomical detail without a quality tradeoff.
Metal printers
Metal printers use SLM (selective laser melting) to build parts directly from titanium or cobalt-chrome powder — used for partial frameworks, implant bars and custom abutments, where milling from a solid block isn't economical.
Which type do you need
The choice between resin and metal depends on the job, not the machine price: if your output is a model or a temporary mold, go resin; if you're producing a final metal part (a framework or bar), metal SLM is the right choice.
